Who we are

Celebrating 175 Years of Purpose-Driven Excellence

As California’s first independent school, San Domenico has helped students thrive in an ever-changing world for generations. Today, we are a K–12 coeducational school—with boarding options in grades 9–12—where academic excellence is grounded in our core values of study, reflection, community, and service. We prepare students not only for success in college, but for lives of purpose, integrity, and impact. By blending rigorous academics, a diverse and inclusive community, and a deep commitment to character, San Domenico equips young people with the skills, confidence, and perspective to lead in a rapidly evolving world.

Here, excellence comes with purpose. Our students are encouraged to explore big questions, think critically, and innovate boldly, while also embracing kindness, ethical decision-making, and a responsibility to contribute to the greater good. In our diverse and inclusive community—where classmates represent a wide range of backgrounds and more than 20 countries—students gain a richer perspective on the world and the skills to collaborate across cultures.

Our 515-acre campus in Marin County offers a natural extension of the classroom: state-of-the-art facilities surrounded by open space, trails, gardens, and gathering places that inspire curiosity, focus, and well-being. Whether conducting science experiments in the creek, performing on stage, or mentoring younger peers, San Domenico students discover their passions, grow as leaders, and graduate ready to meet a rapidly changing world with confidence, resilience, and heart.

San Domenico School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
