Maybeck offers a welcoming, independent high school experience in the heart of Berkeley. Since 1972, we've been a close-knit community where students are encouraged to be themselves, discover their passions, and prepare thoughtfully for the wider world.

Life at Maybeck

• A seat at every table: With an average class size of 12, our classrooms feel like lively seminars. Students and teachers sit together around the table—sharing ideas, working through challenges, and learning alongside peers across different grade levels.

• Supportive, collaborative learning: True academic growth happens when students feel supported rather than in competition with each other. Hard work and curiosity are celebrated in a warm atmosphere centered on kindness, mutual respect, and shared discovery.

• Two-week Spring Intensives: Each spring, regular classes pause so students and teachers can dive deeply into a single shared passion. Recent adventures include pottery workshops in Mendocino, hiking in the desert, exploring game design, and cultural travels in Japan, France, and Mexico.

• Learning beyond the classroom: Through our Maybeck Beyond program, students regularly head outdoors to camp and cycle, attend local plays and museums, and enjoy the rich culture of the Bay Area. Through our open campus policy, students build life skills daily by engaging directly with Berkeley's shops, restaurants, and more during free periods.
