Who we are
Welcome to Marin Horizon School!
We foster a genuine passion for learning, kindness, and positive change. Our curriculum is designed to inspire students to embrace challenges, think critically, and become compassionate advocates.
About Us
Founded in 1977, Marin Horizon is a co-educational day school serving Toddler through Middle School students. We are located in a friendly neighborhood in Mill Valley that is surrounded by redwood groves and hiking trails where we believe that every child can grow up to make a difference. Every day our faculty enthusiastically delivers an exceptional education in joyful classrooms where academics and integrity are of equal importance. We do this because the world doesn’t just need smart people. The world needs smart people with the courage to be kind and to stand up for what’s right.
Mission
Our mission is to challenge students to be self-reliant thinkers and lifelong learners. We inspire academic excellence, nurture students’ natural love of learning, and encourage them to be confident, creative individuals who are responsible to each other, the community, and the world.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Marin Horizon School is proud of our leadership role in Bay Area educational circles for its unparalleled dedication to building a diverse community and approach. This commitment is a key element of our philosophy and illustrates the school’s aim to equip all of our students to be successful in both local and global communities. Since 2017, our school has been operating an extension of our Early Childhood Education program - Horizon Community School (HCS) - in the neighboring Marin City. Operated as a Public Private partnership, HCS has been recognized a model for what happens when ideas become action.
Admissions
Marin Horizon's admissions process is designed to be thoughtful and thorough. Our approach is warm and informal, just like our community, and we have created a range of events to give families insight into the school experience. To reach admissions, please email admissions@marinhorizon.org or contact Denise Bailey (Associate Director of Enrollment Management) at denise@marinhorizon.org or Lizzie Key '01 (Director of Enrollment Management) at lizzie@marinhorizon.org.
Indexed Tuition Model
Our mission is to ensure that every family, regardless of their financial background, can access the outstanding programs offered at our school. On average we distribute $2.3 million in tuition assistance dollars each year, and more than 27% of our students benefit from the indexed tuition model. Tuition assistance amounts range from 10% to more than 90%, and the program also covers a portion of non-tuition expenses.
