Who We Are
The Compass School is an independent school in Austin, Texas, enrolling students from Kindergarten through 4th grade for the 2027-2028 school year. We were founded on a simple belief: that children learn best when they are known deeply, challenged genuinely, and given room to be curious.
Every decision we make is intentional. How we structure the day, how we group students, how we measure growth — all of it is designed to put children in the middle of real learning rather than on the receiving end of it.
Learning doesn't stay inside the classroom. Austin is our classroom. Students explore the city's ecosystems, history, and culture as curious investigators, asking questions, gathering evidence, and returning to the classroom to make sense of what they've found. A walk along Shoal Creek becomes a science lesson. A visit to a local market becomes a conversation about community. The city is always teaching, and our students are always paying attention.
Our program is built around the whole child. Before students can think critically, they need to feel safe enough to take risks. Before they can collaborate, they need to know how to disagree. Before they can lead, they need to know themselves. We build those skills deliberately, through daily routines, one-on-one check-ins with each student, and a community that holds high expectations for how people treat one another. That foundation is what makes the academic work stick.
We'd love for you to come see it for yourself. Learn more on our website or visit our campus for a tour.
