Explorer West is an independent middle school in West Seattle, with specialized expertise in the unique needs of students in grades 6 through 8.

For over 30 years, we’ve provided a supportive environment where students are deeply known and challenged to grow, academically, socially, and personally.

Our teachers are experts in early adolescence and are committed to meeting students where they are, building on their strengths and encouraging them to stretch beyond their comfort zones. With small class sizes and a personalized approach, we create strong relationships and ensure every student knows they are a valued member of the community.

  Our dynamic curriculum is carefully designed for the unique needs of middle schoolers, fostering critical thinking, collaborative skills, creativity, and confidence.

  Our students spend over 10 days each year directly developing outdoor skills - from backpacking and camping, to snowshoeing and skiing. In addition, Outdoor Education themes are woven into our academic programming across all three years, building resilience, teamwork, and environmental stewardship.

• Robust Student Support
  Our Student Support Team includes a full-time counselor and a core group of educators focused on ensuring every student has the opportunity to reach their full potential. Our Advisory program provides each student with a faculty mentor, with whom they meet reguarly over all three years. 

• Vibrant Art Education for Every Student
  Drama, instrumental music, and visual arts are integral to the Explorer West experience, promoting self-expression, artistic appreciation, and holistic development.
